Ethels Cinema Akaroa is a boutique twin screen entertainment venue playing the latest blockbuster, foreign and arthouse films. Ethels is the perfect seaside entertainment space for any birthday, private or corporate event.
 
Ethels café offers delicious dine-in and takeaway handcrafted hot and cold food including daily baked savoury and sweet treats, Akaroa's best Italian Pizza, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. The fully licenced bar offers boutique wines, craft beer, Vivace Espresso, t leaf T, milkshakes, ice creams, popcorn, Karma sodas and organic juices.

Wheelchair users

We have space available for wheelchair users in both cinemas. In Cinema One seat F1 can be removed to accommodate one wheelchair, book this seat ahead of time online or by calling the ticket office on 304 7777. In Cinema Two there is space for one wheelchair, you can book this space ahead of time by calling the ticket office on 304 7777. There is also an accessible toilet located in the foyer of our building.

Ethels gift cards are the perfect gift for any occasion, choose from Ethels personalised printed gift cards or digital e-gift cards. Drop into Ethels box office and purchase them over the counter or purchase them online now. Cinema Hire

Ethels Cinema Akaroa is available for fundraisers, corporate events, private screenings, group functions, Christmas functions, adult and children's birthday parties. Our in-house chef would love to cater your next function and can provide tasty finger food or a tailored dinner menu. 

We generally take bookings for groups between 17 and 36 people on a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Bookings for Thursday, Friday or Saturday night by negotiation.

Ethels is fully licensed and offers a wide range boutique wines, craft beers and selected spirits.

Private Cinema Hire Costs (includes current blockbuster, documentary or arthouse film)
